Charles Hughes, son of a small farmer on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Coast, was determined to have the best clothing and footwear when he founded his business in Westport in 1904.

119 years later his core principles of exceptional design, quality, value and service still apply in the business today. 

The original shop that Charles Hughes opened in 1904 is still in business in Westport today but Portwest - The Outdoor Shop has since expanded with three other stores along the Wild Atlantic Way. In 2022; the Flagship store was opened just stones throw from the original shop in Westport and the others two stores are located in Galway and Killarney.

We pride ourselves on the heritage of our family owned Irish business, our exceptional customer service and continuing to produce our own brand of outdoor clothing. Still owned and managed by the Hughes family in Westport, Portwest, although renowned globally for workwear and PPE, remains humble and proud of our heritage and our roots in the West of Ireland.
