Sanctuary Swimmers

Portwest were delighted to partner with Swim Ireland and Sanctuary Runners for another year of the Sanctuary Swimmers Programme.

The Sanctuary Swimmers programme is made up of locals, refugees and others who have moved to Ireland learning how to swim in Ireland’s coastal waters over 4 lessons.

Sanctuary Runners is an award-winning not-for-profit organisation set up in 2018 using walking and running to bring locals, asylum seekers and refugees together with over 10,000 members!

Following on from a successful pilot programme in Cork in the autumn of 2022, this year there were 4 locations; Salthill, Co. Galway, Bray Co. Wicklow, Myrtleville, Co. Cork and Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. The programme has been a fantastic success teaching open water swimming and it's a great way to meet new people.

Well done to everyone involved 👏👏👏
