Why choose fleeces from Portwest – The Outdoor Shop

Made for Irish conditions: warm, breathable layers that work in damp, windy weather.
Easy layering: designed to sit comfortably under waterproof shells or over base layers.
Fast-drying fabrics: ideal after showers, sea spray or active days on the hills.
Options for all the family: fleeces for men, women and kids in a range of weights and fits.

How to choose the right fleece

For high activity (hiking, walking): choose lightweight or grid fleeces that breathe well.
For everyday warmth: midweight fleece jackets and hoodies are perfect for town and trail.
For colder days: sherpa-style or heavier fleeces give extra insulation under a waterproof.
For layering: slimmer technical fits work best under a shell; relaxed cuts are great as stand-alone pieces.

Build a simple layering system: base layer + fleece + waterproof shell and you’re ready to Live Outside in comfort—whatever the Irish weather brings.

FAQs

Are fleeces warm enough for winter?

On their own, fleeces are great for cool days. In winter, pair a midweight or sherpa fleece with a waterproof or insulated jacket for extra warmth and protection.

What’s the difference between micro-fleece and regular fleece?

Micro-fleece is thinner and lighter, making it ideal for high activity and layering. Regular and sherpa fleeces are thicker, offering more insulation and a cosier feel.

Can I wear a fleece under a waterproof jacket?

Yes. Fleeces are designed as mid-layers—wear them over a base layer and under a waterproof shell to stay warm and dry.

How should I wash my fleece?

Wash on a cool, gentle cycle and avoid fabric softener, which can affect breathability. Air dry where possible to maintain softness and shape.
